Doing an internship, you will gain many valuable skills and experiences. If you will do it in another country, you can develop both professional skills and learn about new cultures and languages all at the same time. Let’s do an internship at Elcano School!
Experience of a trainee
I was finishing my university studies and wanted more and more to learn a different language. It is hard for a working student to find time to learn a language. I attend some courses and it is really difficult to have also time to go abroad for few months to learn a new language.
Having already started a curriculum training in one of my university’s research labs, I decided to apply for the Erasmus + program to undertake an after-degree internship. I applied to several companies that were already in contact with my university and after few days Elcano School contacted me.
Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world after Chinese, and is also the second language used in international communications after English. So I decided to learn Spanish because, in addition to having a significant importance, it has a musicality that has always attracted me. Additionally a placement in a language school is an opportunity to gain many professional and linguistic advantages. And in Alicante they speak typical Spanish, so it is a great place to practice with locals!
I had not been in Alicante before and I did not know what to expect from it. I arrived on a rainy day, something very rare in Alicante, without knowing anyone and without knowing how to handle the language. I was walking alone in the streets trying to communicate with people asking directions. I immediately felt at ease when I met the helpful and kind people of Alicante. It is not an expensive city and you can easily find a room to rent.
I share the apartment with 3 students of different nationalities in order to practice Spanish and learn different cultures. The sea, the night life, the cafes outside, the excursions, the dancing, the jam sessions, playing guitar in the beach – these all make Alicante a vibrant and colorful city that allows you to get to know different and interesting people every day . Working in the Elcano School I was also able to meet students of all nationalities with whom I have long-lasting ties.
I would highly recommend this experience! It is the ideal opportunity to get professional and linguistic training at the same time, and something that I will always remember.
